This course is taught mostly in French as well as in English and/or Russian when needed. Students will work on basic communicative skills in French: speaking, understanding, reading, and writing. The focus is on confident speaking and accurate pronunciation. No previous knowledge of French is expected.  

The course is taught in a highly communicative and interactive manner through fun and hands-on activities. In a relaxed and supportive atmosphere students will practice basic survival phrases starting from day one. Their French proficiency will grow by means of games and role-plays, exposure to authentic material and the study of films and songs. All study materials will be provided. The focus of the course can be adjusted to the needs and learning goals of the group.  

Students will learn the fundamentals of the French language and culture to make their next trip to France, Canada or another francophone area more meaningful and rewarding. By the end of the year-long program, using basic French, students will learn to narrate present, future and past events using regular and irregular verbs. Students will be able to refer to a calendar, their personal schedule, tell time to plan trips and appointments, and discuss topics ranging from dining to clothing, lodging, leisure time, and travel.
